The HSA Foundation Has Been Eerily Quiet As We Roll Into 2021
Heterogenous compute has just not been working in general. Even big.LITTLE cores don't play together, much less CPU and GPU, even with shared memory. You need a natural reason to force one type of compute into the other, and in practice, it never happens. Perhaps eventually we will see FPGA's into the mix, and then compiling a CPU instruction set with a heterogenous FPGA custom made instruction will make things faster. But I doubt it.
Just like Itanium, these will turn out to be solutions looking for an answer. And in the end, answers to the wrong questions.
