MIPS are the losers who lost their workstation to POWER, SPARC and Xeon, and the losers who lost their embedded to ARM, they should have opened their architecture a decade or two ago, but then in a panic last bid to stay relevant they opened their architecture in fear of going total obsolete with the arrival of RISC-V.

These guys could have been pioneers, they could have opened their architecture a decade or two ago, things could be so different for them, they could be in a so much better standing.
