Phoronix: AMD Pushes Back 3rd Gen Threadripper & Ryzen 9 3950X Until November

While the Ryzen 9 3950X and 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper processors were reportedly on track for launching in October with updates as of a few weeks ago, today AMD announced a slight delay in launching these new processors...

Is it related to TSMC being overbooked? Buying Ryzen 9 3900X is almost impossible (always out of stock everywhere). So looks like 3950X will face the same problem.

TSMC has announced a threefold increase in its delivery lead times for 7 nm orders, from two months to nearly six months, which means that orders will now have to wait three times longer to be fulfilled than they once did. This means that current channel supplies and orders made after the decision from TSMC will take longer to materialize in actual silicon, which may lead to availability slumps should demand increase or maintain.

Maybe that will give Microsoft enough time to fix their scheduler once and for all.

It's hard to fix stuff you don't understand.

I was thinking this is the reason. Threadripper is a profitable market but not a lucrative one. There's a lot more profit and demand in the AM4 and Epyc markets.

Either way ( excessive demand or problems at TSMC) this is actually good news. At least in this little niche of the economy we are not seeing a slowdown.

I expect AMD is cashing in on EPYC orders.. 3950X and TR can wait.

The Windows scheduler won't be as broken on TR3 as TR1 and TR2 anyway since the memory all connects through the IO chip...
