        What the "char" means in the tree? Misc is for miscellaneous, but the "char" I can't figure it out

          ...as opposed to a Linux block device. This one isn't accessed in dicrete blocks (isn't accessed by sector), it just gets a stream of GPU (-like) commands sent to it.
          i.e.: it accepts stream of bytes (= "char" in C/C++).
          hence the "char" name of that family in the linux kernel.
