It's RDMA over Converged Ethernet. And has no use for the average user. IMO even above average user will just use infiniband, FC, FCoE, iSCSI, Ethernet or 10Gb/40Gb fiber and do his business without ever needing to deal with RoCE(learn something new).

RoCE is very popular in the DC space, where servers go.

RoCE is very useful for large scale databases, and there are datastructures which are optimized for it. I suspect there is a market for it in China's networked services sector (particularly in search).

Unlike Qualcomm, Huawei will be in this game for a long time. China needs a server chip of its own. And they will ensure enough resources are dedicated to making it succeed.
