Now, all of a "sudden", after RISC-V is going large scale... how surprising. Well, better late than never. But I guess they'll have a much harder time now. They should have done this five years prior.

I agree, and was thinking the same thing. RISC-V probably wouldn't have needed to exist if MIPS made these changes much sooner.

I wouldn't say 5 years, but at least when Riscv, made its big Jump, so for me this should have been done some ~3 years ago..
Nano MIPS I7200 is a good damm nice processor,
It has Multiply/Divide unit and yields for 2 threads a Core-Mark about 6, impressive!!

It let the ARM CortexA53in the [email protected], imagine it at 2.1Ghz..
