  • Linux-compatible Z270 motherboards (ASUS ROG, Gigabyte...)?

Hi, can anyone advise on whether Linux will likely work with these motherboards? I'm thinking about buying a desktop PC from pcspecialist: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/intel-z270-pc/ The Z270 motherboards they have to choose from are:

ASUS PRIME Z270-P - this one does work with Linux: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...me-z270p&num=1 but it's the weakest of the motherboards here, doesn't support 4K @ 60Hz or DisplayPort
I haven't had any luck googling the others:

    ASUS ROG STRIX Z270-H Gaming
    ASUS ROG STRIX Z270-E Gaming
    ASUS ROG MAXIMUS IX HERO
    ASUS ROG MAXIMUS IX FORMULA
    Gigabyte Z270P-D3
    Gigabyte Z270X-Ultra Gaming
    Gigabyte AORUS Z270x-Gaming 7

I don't see any reason any of them wouldn't. The core hardware is the same; they differentiate themselves through firmware features, header options, and secondary hardware like the audio chipset and fan controller.

For boards with REALLY high end premium audio, you might need a newer kernel or possibly not have a full-featured driver at all; google the IC's model number and find out. But that's very VERY rare. The most popular chips are old Realtek ALC series that have been around for years. The ALC887 on the Z270P-D3, for example, debuted in 2008 and has had mature Linux support almost as long due to a readily available datasheet and being built to the Intel HDA spec.

Thanks. I think at least the ASUS ones will work, I found a compatibility list from ASUS here: https://www.asus.com/websites/global...inux170105.pdf
