I am thinking about upgrading my motherboard and switching my hard disk storage to Linux RAID. I was wondering which current southbridge chipsets have exceptional overall Linux performance. I mainly care about the SATA performance if I upgrade b/c I want use Linux RAID but also want to have a somewhat future proof motherboard.

My current system is a an AMD AM2 nvidia MCP51 (nforce4) and the performance is moderate.

Here are some PTS results:

Here are some results from hdparm:
Code:
#hdparm -Tt /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 2552 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1277.59 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 228 MB in 3.03 seconds = 75.32 MB/sec
Thank you for any advice.

Sincerely,
sirus
