    Note that the Ubuntu pmtools package is a package of Perl module tools and not related to power management like Fedora's pmtools. You have to install acpidump on Ubuntu-based distros.

                      I just noticed that the linuxfirmwarekit CD also produces output in the saved data like you would receive from dmidecode and acpidum (it creates acpi.dump file). Very good if you don't have an installed Linux on a system.
                      Since I work at university I may ask some colleagues the lend me their laptops for a quick test. One PC in our computer pool didn't have a BIOS password/boot menu protection so I was happy to do a quick test and later extract (acpixtract -l api.dump) the info on my Gentoo laptop.
