    Oh so now is it gonna be called "USB4 40Gbps"?

    What is this naming mess?

    What's next? USB4.1 Gen2 40x2Gbps?

      It's like the Terminator movies, the first 2 were great and the rest were a mess.

            Wow! I don't even have USB 3.0 devices around, let alone USB 4.0 20Gb or USB 4.0 40Gb...

            Uninteresting technology ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

              You could run USB-C <-> USB-C between computer and setup up USB-IP network Faster than Ethernet if distances allow

                USB isn’t that bad, the later terminator movies where crap. The biggest problem with USB-C is the half assed connector which is about as rugged as a glass light bulb. Hopefully people here remember glass light bulbs.

                frankly it would have been far better if the evolution of USB focused on rugged connectors like was done for the initial release. Well that and manufactures didn’t give up on the A connector so soon. That connector is still perfect for the low data rate world.

                  It really isn't. Thunderbolt 3 is now license free and part of USB4. Which means it will be available on AMD soon, finally.

                    USB1 -> USB2 = 40x speedup (gen1 cable)
                    USB2 -> USB3 = 10x speedup
                    USB3 -> USB3.1A = 2x speedup (gen2 cable)
                    USB3.1A -> USB3.1C = 2x speedup (gen3 cable)
                    USB3.2 just introduced stricter requirements re cabling (gen3.1 cable)
                    USB3.2C -> USB4 20 = 2x speedup (shorter cable, gen3.1)
                    USB4 20 -> USB4 40 = 2x speedup (even shorter cable, gen3.1)

                    It is a clear game of progress slowing down.
