Phoronix: A Modern Supermicro Kabylake Xeon Motherboard Now Supports Coreboot

While the tide may be eventually turning, as it stands today for those wanting to run Coreboot on x86 desktop/server hardware you are largely limited to generations-old platforms. But now there is a new option and that is a Coreboot port having been completed to a modern Supermicro motherboard for use with Intel Xeon "Kabylake" processors...

Great news. I'm glad someone is trying to make it feasible to own modern hardware with sane firmware. Coreboot is MUCH better than any stock firmware I've ever used.

Coreboot is growing every month. It really flourishes in the Chromebook/Chromebox reflash space. Glad it is making inroads in the server boards as well.

        1 PCI-E 3.0 x8, 1 PCI-E 3.0 x2 (in x4)
That seems a bit anemic for a server platform

Not all servers need a lot of PCIe slots. ALso there is a x4 PCIe 3.0 in the M.2 slot

This thing has 2x 10Gbit ethernet ports and 8 Sata ports already integrated (and Intel's fake raid supporting RAID0/1/5/10 in case you aren't running Linux/BSDs) so it's pretty capable even without cards.
