    Creating patches for individuals tools/packages so they work with both CUDA as well as OpenCL probably is more time consuming and costly. Something to that effect, I'm guessing.

      OpenCL is open... It would send a signal to other devs that opencl can work just as well as CUDA and cross platform.

        OpenCL may be open, the software that makes use of it does not necessarily have to be. In other words, AMD simply went with the solution that provided them with the most direct route.
