    Well, IMO that's the only comparison that makes sense. Nvidia's top driver vs AMD's top driver.

      Whether it is the only sensible test or not is not the point, The fact that AMD open source drivers are competitive against NVIDIA-proprietary is something noteworthy to say the least.
      Apparently, Miachel has some backing in his anti-AMD bias.

        gputest has seemed to show the 'real' strength of the cards for quite some time. What OpenGL features does it test - or more important does it not test - in particular?

          As you mentioned issues with the latest Nvidia driver, maybe use this option to disable glvnd while installing: "--no-glvnd-glx-client" - i don't know why this causes problems with your games, but Nvidia likes to switch the default in the installer from one driver to the next.
