Maybe you missed the part where the Open Source drivers are barely getting to the point of being functional with the newer Radeons and these aren't cheap parts where you can just make an impulse buy and not worry about it.

If you are so emotionally bent out of shape over this stuff, buy the GTX-970 and send the $300 that you saved to the open-source radeon developers. I mean the unpaid volunteers, not the AMD employees who should be doing their damn jobs without needing extra money.

You have no idea what you're saying. First of all buy hardware with currently working drivers, that rule applies to any hardware vendor. Second of all Fiji's driver support will improve, and by the time it does availability will be higher with lower bins to choose from. You clearly have no idea how processors are fabricated and then diffused and binned.

AMD are binning Fury X chips to get those that will leak the least current. Therefore it both costs them money and these chips are hard to come by to begin with. Expect availability to be limited.

Given how poorly the full-bore version of the Furry X performs in Linux, and that this part is guaranteed to not be faster, I don't see any way to recommend this part for a Linux based system.

You want a small form factor GPU? Guess what, there are SFF GTX-970s at half the price of this monster that we all know will destroy it in performance simply because of AMD's drivers.

Yes it is an HBM supply issue. They know that they will easily sell out all the Fiji GPUs which they can produce.
So they should make as much money as possible from it.
