Intel Arc B570 Graphics Performance On Linux

Phoronix: Intel Arc B570 Graphics Performance On Linux

Last month when Intel formally introduced Battlemage graphics their initial products in the B-Series were the B570 and B580 graphics cards. The B580 went on sale in December and we've been busy testing the B580 on Linux since while today the embargo expires on the Arc B570 with those graphics cards going on sale this morning. Here is a first look at the Intel Arc B570 graphics and compute performance under Linux with their latest open-source drivers.

At the price range of 219 vs 249 usd it hardly seems worth going with the B570. The B580 is much better value.

For anyone playing games, at $249 vs $259 a person is better off getting a 7600. You have to be trying to run games at settings well beyond a sub-$300 GPUs performance level to really utilize as much VRam as these GPUs offer. You don't have a 1440p or 1080p ultra GPU. You have a 1080p medium GPU. Use it appropriately, dammit.

If you're the kind of person who does GPU computing, however, these are nice GPUs.

I have yet to see either materialize in retail at those prices.

The B580 has proved surprisingly popular and has been selling like hot cakes. The price will settle down over time.e

In a nutshell, a slightly slower version of a not very fast card.

Which will get better with more development and which already has an awesome power consumption profile.

I can't seem to get excited for these cards.

If I was going to put together a system with a $600 Core Ultra 9 285K and a $700 ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z890 HERO, I would not be choosing a low end Intel GPU for that setup.

What I would pair it with is a ... no. not NVIDIA card, even though I they are great for video work, a Radeon 7900 XTX because i have a luks1 that I really need to brute force and they seem to have the fastest performance for hashcat.

I wonder how much faster the B580 is than my Radeon Vega64 ? I am toying with the idea of replace it with the B580 ...

At first glance I saw $129 and I said "mmhh, could be interesting!", then it turned out as $219 and things changed...
