    I am annoyed by the very same thing.

    In fact, I asked the question in ##sway on freenode a while ago. As I believed, this is a X11 technical limitation. It appears that the Wayland extension and sway/wlroots will be able to support this usecase.

    Good to see some plans materializing for Wayland use case with adaptive sync. I wouldn't personally worry much about HDMI, it's better to stay away from it to begin with, and use DisplayPort.
