GPU Passthrough Trick?

Pre-GPU passthrough, where you're just running a guest OS in a different workspace, you could seamlessly & instantly switch between your host OS and guest OS. But now if you use a GPU passthrough to get full performance on the guest OS, then you'll need a dedicated display for that guest OS. Or else, you'll need to write two GPUs to a single display. How can I get seamless & instant switching between guest & host OSs while still having a GPU passthrough & 1 display? Any clever configs to remedy?
