    I've built amd-staging 4.13.11 and most everything works now but the touchpad is still very flakey. It'll work for 10 - 15 minutes and then stops. I've filed a bugreport with the i2c debugging information I could find. Anyway the situation is as follows now:

    Fedora 26 (stock kernel)
    * Wifi does not work due (no r8822be driver)
    * Resuming from suspend does not work, amdgpu can't do DP link training successfully
    * Touchpad does not work

    Fedora 27 (stock kernel)
    * Same as 26 but now wifi works due to the included staging driver (needs linux-firmware from rawhide to work correctly however)

    Fedora 26 (4.13.11+amdgpu and r8822be staging and linux-firmware from rawhide)
    * Touchpad works, sort of
    * Resuming from suspend works
    * wifi works

    All in all for such a new machine it's not a bad situation right now. I have tested the following
    * Multimedia keys all work
    * 3D works (60+ fps in tomb raider ultra, 80+ fps in talos principle highest settings)
    * Suspend/resume works
    * Wifi works (12+MB/s which is about as much as I get on my Intel wifi chip)

    The only nagging issues:
    * AMD virtualization is disabled in the BIOS and can't be enabled. I've filed a bug with Asus
    * Haven't gotten freesync to work but I may just not understand how that's supposed to work
    * Touchpad failures are very annoying
    * The included mechanical drive is trash, it needs replacement

    And the promised lspci output

      I'm running 4.14.0-rc8 and I merged in drm-next-4.15-dc, all hardware appears to be working now although I'm still going to replace the realtek wifi card with an Intel one. Bluetooth on the realtek isn't the most reliable. Once this is in I'll do some pts runs once I've figured out how to use openbenchmarking

        Tmm, where'd you buy it from? Best Buy is sold out right now.

          I live in The Netherlands, I got mine from a seller called 'Cool Blue' I don't think that'll be very helpful to you, sorry.

          As a sidenote I have the kernel I'm running plus a working .config here: https://notabug.org/hp/linux-gl702zc I'm running it together with Fedora 27.

            I received mine three days ago, and I can confirm that the Realtek wifi chipset works nicely with the 4.14 kernel (not the 4.13) and so does graphics acceleration with the oibaf PPA for Ubuntu 17.10. Also work: temperature sensors, speakers.

            For the time being the only game I've tested on Linux was Darkwood and it's perfectly smooth, unlike on my ancient Kaveri + R9 M290X laptop. And of course on Windows so do every game at maximum settings.

            So for now I'm glad I fell for it. AMD had disappeared from the laptop high-end GPU segment for 3 years, and Vega seems to take an eternity to reach laptops.

              The above linked kernel fork (with included .config) actually makes the touchpad work reliably in case you have the same issue I'm having Azultra. If you don't have the same issue would you mind putting your .config somewhere I can get at it? I'm trying to determine what settings cause the i2c controller to fail to load properly.

                I've just upgraded the wifi card to an Intel and bluetooth works fine now too.

                07:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 78)

                In case anyone wants to do something similar. Also means that you don't need to load the staging driver any longer. I had some problems with USB messing up of the wifi card was disassociated for too long. Very odd.

                  I haven't used the touchpad a lot, but it does seem to hold well and multitouch works. I'm using a kernel from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.14/

                    Little update:
                    I've played and finished Saints Row IV on 'high' graphics detail without any issues. Occasional frame drop but nothing game breaking. I'm now playing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on 'high' as well. Most of the time framerates are solid there too with occasionally in a scene with a lot of lighting some slowdowns. I don't have an FPS counter running but I'd say that most of the time I'm seeing 50+ FPS with occasional short dips into the 20s.

                    I tried to run some PTS tests for the other games I have but due to running on F27 and running steam in a flatpak it's a little hit and miss. It seems PTS doesn't like it

                    EDIT: I also contacted ASUS about the missing SVM stuff. They assured me that in the next bios the 'AMD Virtualization Extensions' will be enabled.

                    I've also installed an additional 16GB of RAM for a total of 32GB. Installing new RAM without taking off the cooling apparatus is possible but it's not easy. If I had to do it again I'd buy new cooling paste and remove the whole cooling assembly before attempting it again.

                      I installed a second 8 GB stick too (mine only had one 8 GB stick initially), and didn't run into any issue with the heat sinks. It's not very accessible but perfectly doable, it's weird you had so much trouble.
                      BTW I appreciate that Asus let you access the RAM and HDD without voiding the warranty, unlike on my MSI laptop.
