A software for Energizer CHUSB charger

    Hi there!

I just bought an Energizer CHUSB USB battery charger ('cause some company is throwing them out for free* here in Germany, and I wanted such a thing cause my BlueTooth mouse manages to suck the batteries empty in about 3 days)

Anyhow, this thing can be monitored via USB by software. There used to be a Winblows SW (with pre-installed Trojan horse HEHE), that is now gone.

As I don't use Winblows, I want to write some monitoring application for Linux.

I started a google code project, and have written a small program to read out the
    status of the device:

    http://code.google.com/p/chusb/

But now I need some help:

    a) someone could read the logs and try to help me interpret the logs.
    b) someone could do real charging with rechargeable AA batteries ... I only have AAAs.

    * free = You still have to pay shipping (4.95?)

    @sebastian

sorry I have not got a reply notice from this topic therefore I'm very late in answering the Question.
The Setup is recompiled with innosetup too. The CES is just a visible marker for me to divide it from work of other people.

About time... I postet just some time after the work was done and testet. But the Post was confirmed by an moderator much later. this is why tis post ist much later than the file.

    Greetings

interesting, when did you generate your setup package?

virustotal claims to have seen that file hash already 5 months ago...
    https://www.virustotal.com/file/56d1...is/1355419964/

(I guess I'm also too stupid to unpack your setup .exe, created with CES(?), while the original seemed to be built with innosetup and unpacks fine with 7-zip )

    Trojan Free Setup for download

I have ripped the Trojan out of the original setup found via the Way-Back machine.

Get the version with ripped off trojan at tiny(dot)cc//usbcharger

I know there are false positives from some Antivirus-Software on this File.
Only thing I can do is to assure I have ripped the trojan of.
Don't blame me for the false positives.

to keep it simple here is the INFO-File of the Link:
    Code:
    Energizer Duo USB-Charger
    Trojan-free Driver and GUI

The original Energiser-USB Driver contains a Trojan an therefore was removed from the Energizer Website.
This is a rebuild Setup of the original Driver leavong the Trojan component out.

THis Setup is NOT nessessary to use the Charger, it's only a GUI showing expected Time for charging.
YOu may use this Software at own risk.

    About this Software:
    I unpacked the Setup.exe
    - removed the offending trojan .dll file
    - edited two binaries to surpress the trojan windows\run Registry-entry on execution
    - altered the setup script to surpress the trojan windows\run Registry entry
    Finally compiled the Setup again.

    Trivia:
Informations about the Problem may be found here:

Informations about the Trojan from CERT:

    Information from Symantec:

A Project trying to rebuild the functions of the Driver may be found here:

There too are informations how to get the original Software (It DOES contain the Trojan, you habe been warned)

so there seemed to be some spam post in this thread, that sent me a notification about a reply and thus reminded me about that charger software once again, after such a long time...

so, has anyone actually attempted to make some GUI-based replacement for that original infected software?

in the .net Framework libraries I couldn't really find anything useful, that would work with USB devices across multiple platforms (seems like you'd have to compile against a ported version of libusb for each OS instead)

even Delphi was no big help when it comes to making a quick-and-dirty Windows-only application...

Java might be a last option though:
    http://jcp.org/aboutJava/communitypr...080/index.html

I gues I'll find the time to see through those specifications after Christmas...

anyone else still willing to make some software for that thing!?

    hi,
the download is still cached on the servers of the wonderful internet wayback machine
    http://web.archive.org/web/200904180.../download.aspx

(I didn't know they'd actually keep even binary files of ~3MB size in cache, but hey, obviously they do... )

the infected file (or at least one of them / the most obvious one) is Arucer.dll, but can be deleted and the software will keep working. I think it is created both in the program's directory and in your system32 folder, but don't remember exactly, it's been too long ago already

    OT: source of win-SW

    hi sebastian,

are you willing to share the windows software - bug infested as it may be, or even your instructions on how to install it without getting bitten?

any pointer towards where you found it might also help.

    tnx alot!

I have just ordered one (after reading this topic), looks nice. I'll try some hacking when I get it.

I also have some 'bad' batteries that cause smart chargers to display errors, maybe I'll try to figure out something about errors.
