I have a bone to pick with Michael Larabel, the mighty overlord of Phoronix and apparent destroyer of artistic livelihoods*. Yes, Michael, I’m talking to you—the man who singlehandedly decided that human artists were just too mainstream and swapped them out for the cold, unfeeling algorithms of AI-generated art. Bravo, Michael. You’ve officially joined the ranks of people who think robots are better at painting than humans with actual dreams.

Let’s talk about what this means. Do you know how many artists are out there, painstakingly creating beautiful pieces pixel by pixel, stroke by stroke, fueled only by caffeine and the crushing weight of existential dread? And yet here you are, uploading an AI-generated image with the smug ease of a man who thinks, “Well, this was free, and I didn’t even have to learn how to draw!”

By using AI art, you’re not just saving money, Michael—you’re taking food off the tables of artists. You’re snatching the paintbrush out of their hands and replacing it with a .txt file that says, “Make me a pretty picture, AI.” These algorithms don’t have student loans, Michael. They don’t have rent to pay. They don’t cry when they get ghosted by clients.

So, congratulations, Michael! You’re officially ahead of the curve, leading the charge into a brave new world where the only art we have is generated by code, and the only jobs left are for people who can spell “ethereal landscape with cyberpunk vibes” correctly on their first try.

I doubt Michael cares. He's probably more worried about making graphs readable, and from what I remember, he's always used "stock" images anyway.
Heck, I have images blocked on this site, because I use it as my home page and want it to be really quick to load. That, and people on the forum keep using (usually stupid) "meme" images and gifs (and then other people quote them to plaster them on your screen again). Annoying.

Now what is SoundWire, and is it by any mean related to PipeWire?

FWIW, I've always asked about a way for images to be smaller and expanded upon being clicked to prevent such annoyances. I'm working within the confines of what Phoronix allows and don't like how annoying it can be, either.

I've seen a lot of convincing arguments against the proliferation of AI - that isn't one of them.

If you feel inspired to be artistic, make art. Thinking that someone else owes you a living because you want to make art is... a typical sign of the times, sadly.

                    Yes it is.

Because all these AI models have illegally consumed the output of actual artists, committing copyright infringement on a enormous scale.
