It's sad? It shows that many people here know what a firewall can do and what it's limitations are.

A properly configured firewall will definitely stop phishing emails and malware and it can stop any malware on a USB stick from actually getting any data out of the network.
Really? And how would it do that? Please name the firewall that is this mighty and how you need to configure it that it is able to crack TLS on the fly. Do you even know what a phishing mail is?

Further, properly configured group policy stops all removable storage devices.
Ah yes, good old linux group policys, who doesn't know them. They are probably allready preconfigured on this purism server.

No, for 3000$ you only get the i3 4c4t, the i7 costs extra.

This is an 8 thread box. Rather than buy two of these, I could spec out a single POWER9 blackbird with a 4 core/16 thread box, 2U heatsink, more ECC ram, and a generic 2U enclosure and come out both faster and cheaper and more open. The stuff purism makes is laughable garbage.
I'm curious where you do your shopping. Raptor's website [1] currently lists single-socket Blackbird 4C/16T bundle starting at $3,045.70. That leaves you with a negative budget for your RAM, chassis, power supply, etc. to match $3K.

You could buy a used dell blade from that era for roughly the same money: https://www.servershop24.de/en/dell-...rver/a-127622/ but with much better performance: 2x Intel Xeon Gold 6142
Has anyone considered that Purism's value proposition has little to do with mass market PC hardware?

Sure, I guess the market will sort that out. My problem is mainly with the old desktop hardware in a server case, thats were I start to question pricing. If it was an old server CPU with ECC RAM and Raid, a little extra money wouldn't hurt that much.

Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier. What I meant is that if you actually go to their website [1] you'll see that they highlight their firmware (Pureboot), key management (Librem Key), anti-interdiction delivery, and same-day support. The hardware specs are buried at the bottom. It's not the CPU and memory that are worth $3K, it's all the other stuff (the value of which is subjective, of course).

Read my post a little better. You need to buy two purism boxes to match even the base spec of a blackbird.

So you saying that you can spec a Blackbird for 2x the cost of a Librem v2? That's not a very compelling argument.

Let's take an example: I'm an SMB owner who needs to host a website and file sharing (e.g. ownCloud). Technically I could do this on my laptop, but although I'm a control freak at heart I also know that a growing business needs the uptime and bandwidth guarantees that come with hosting in a colo. So in spite of its relatively weak CPU and memory, the Librem seems like a good choice thanks to its relatively open-source firmware (compared to other x86 options anyway) and Librem key which should prevent tampering, plus the enterprise support. It's 1U and has 6 drive bays so it will fit easily in most colos and will store plenty of data.

Please spec a Blackbird that can do the job at a competitive price compared to the Librem server. Inquiring minds would like to know :-)

The purism server can't provide any better uptime guaranties than your standard laptop.
