Phoronix: Fwupd+LVFS Begins Rolling Out Firmware Update Support For NVMe SSDs

Moving forward it will hopefully become easier updating NVMe solid-state drive device firmware under Linux...

Nice progress,.. And, Lenovo looks sympathetic from FOSS proponent's point of view,.. And, ThinkPad T-series is just great for work,.. Once ThinkPad T-series, forever ThinkPad T-series... (at least, for me)

Totally agree kravemir I use and have used both the T series and the X1 and both are great. I really look forward to the new AMD powered Lenovo models and hope they'll offer a high-end model with a 4K screen. It also helps that Red Hat employees use Lenovo laptops and fix anything not working properly (thanks Red Hat!).

Well, Purism seems better - they have partly open source UEFI through Coreboot. And while they don't support fwupd, atleast everything is open source.

Don't think so,.. Purism looks pretty much same on FOSS (Free and open-source software) side,.. only, they have more open hardware.

But, even-though Purism prices their laptops as business tier, those laptops don't come with water/spill resistant keyboard,... which is pretty much no-go, as laptop tends to travel a lot in business, and accidents (caused by others) could happen any time. Also, these laptops have very old generation of CPU(s). So,.. generally, it's not worth the money. Maybe, for some paranoid users, or hackers/villains,... Common user isn't that important to have anything to fear, and honest man has nothing to hide from government. And, no chip manufacturer would ever reveal any backdoor to anyone else, than government. Well, at least, in true democratic countries it doesn't matter,... In communism though, I wouldn't trust,...

Is this change for Lenovo hardware only? I mean, an SSD is an SSD no matter where you plug it.
Also, waiting for firmware for Toshiba NVMe SSDs found in HP laptops, HP seems not to care for firmware updates for them, but Dell uses the same drives in some of their laptops and hopefully they'll be cross-compatible.

              FYI: Board firmware is software.

More or less agree on the hardware not being good enough for businness use.

Lol, the issue with government isn't being dishonest, but them misreading what they find in your stuff and thinking you are a criminal.

Like all the US and canadian kids in the no-fly lists because they were flagged as "potential terrorists" and none ever fixed that bullshit by adding some basic age filter to the stupid algorithm in nearly a fucking decade.

Well, kids won't buy such overpriced laptop,... when they measure primarily by performance, and maybe by build quality and/or easiness to carry,...

And, extremism/terrorism begins also in childhood,... Though, some kids browse bomb making just out of curiosity, and some plan to take down USA as their life mission,... You never know,... (or maybe you do know positive cases.... But you never can confirm it's negative case - not terrorist, unless you know the man personally)

Usually, people are flagged thanks to Facebook, when someone posts anything against America, or propagating extremism/terrorism, then the man is immediately returned back on airport,... Heard few stories,... So, just be cautious about posting/publishing on internet,... Spying on computer's content isn't that easy (to not be noticed),...

Problem is a fully open source UEFI/Coreboot/Linuxboot still does not remove need for fwupd for all the other hardware that has embedded firmware you need to update.

So in a lot of ways it would be good if Purism at least support fwupd to make updating device hardware as simple as possible..

That's just an easy example to help understand my point
