When you think about the case you by mistake send out a goofed up firmware if you are running your own fwupd repository you can stop people getting the firmware faster than having to talk to Microsoft and get them pull it from the windows update repository.
Reading the cab files make it simple for those who have already done their firmware up for windows to release on https://fwupd.org/lvfs/ for Linux.
The question is if fwupd end up working well on Windows. With the fact as vendor you can run your own repo would you still bother about Windows Update method it would seam like duplication and lack of control.

The Linux fwupd system looks very good and could make it much easier on Windows to update firmware, especially durring the boot process before the interactive gui comes up.

For instance, I have a Logitech wireless mouse that had been used on Windows 10 for a few months with the latest Logitech software installed. I then plugged it into my Linux machine and fwupd notified me that a firmware update was available for the dongle. A firmware update that had been available for a long time, but the windows software never bothered to update or even notify me that an update was available.Last edited by Rob72; 31 December 2019, 05:28 AM.
