Phoronix: Hands On With The Atomic Pi As A $35 Intel Atom Alternative To The Raspberry Pi

After a successful Kickstarter campaign and honoring those obligations, the Atomic Pi recently hit retail channels (albeit sold out currently) as a $35 Intel Atom powered single board computer to compete with the likes of the Raspberry Pi...

Hmm... The Raspberry Pi foundation really should have Trademarked the word Pi

In any case, I'm sure this is made in China with the usual ethical issues, where as the real Pi is actually made in Wales https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/fac...m-south-wales/

Please include the low-end AMD cpus like the E-350 and the AM1 ones, if you still have them. This board competes against them too, not just the ARMs.

Atomic Pi has gigabit ethernet and has a traditional BIOS for easy OS installations; got mine with a 5V-5A PSU for $51. I'm not sure what that box linked does for booting, but it has a larger internal NAND it looks like.

Also for anyone interested, Old school Runescape runs relatively well on the APi with Android-x86: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OaZNBTpHg0

Yeah, I have an nearly decade old AMD E-350 system, would love to see how it compares.

If I heard right, the current config doesn't have any spare PCI-E lanes for it. Someone speculated it was designed for either an IoT device or a vehicle.

My thoughts exactly. It would be nice to have some power consumption benchmarks, especially on idle, though.

The lack of SATA is a shame, but still, pretty f*cking impressive!...
I mean, with this board, you can actually watch youtube videos, right?

Not really, my company got dozens of PIs from official channels with the "Made in PRC" printed on them.
