The networking updates also bring x86 42-bit (e)BPF JIT compiler support
I'm guessing this is a typo of 32-bit and not some kind of "pack metadata into the upper 22 bits of a 64-bit allocation" trick?

Bpfilter should be a great improvement. It provides complete compatibility with iptables and nftables. The iptables/nftables userland is not affected at all, there is backwards compatability. In the kernel. iptables rules are converted into eBPF programs and attached to hooks in the kernel. Profiling as shown a great speed up, ebnf is JITed. This allows iptables to use the eBPF framework also used by a large number of other things in the kernel, making maintainence easier.
