I used to have Phoenix (version 6 I think) working under Wine several years ago, but I could not get the later upgrades of Phoenix working under Wine. Personally, I really did not need anything as complex and expensive as Phoenix, and did not want the hassle with having to use the Pheonix USB hardware dongle. So I gave up with Phoenix and moved over to using CCRCsim. CCRCsim is free and available native for Linux, and just works by connecting a normal stereo mini-jack cable from my Spektrum DX6 directly into the PC's audio-in jack (no dongle needed). So I suggest just try crrcsim and only if you must have something more sophisticated then consider dual-booting Windows and buying Phoenix.
