After being challenged by some delays, FreeBSD 9.0 is now planned for an official release in November.

FreeBSD 9.0 stable was originally planned for early September, but the project was late in getting out their early development releases and now it's built up into a two-month delay. The first release candidate of FreeBSD 9.0 is due out at any time (the latest revision of the schedule had it set for 7 October) and then there are still two more RCs before the extended "RELEASE" build. After an update last week to the 9.0 release engineering Wiki, the new planned release date is the 3rd of November.

PC-BSD 9.0 has been quick to follow the new FreeBSD 9.0 releases with their own customized version.

Among the features of FreeBSD 9.0 are a new text-based installer, ZFS file-system updates, further support of LLVM/Clang to eventually replace the GCC compiler in FreeBSD base, Sony PlayStation 3 support, and other improvements.
