The Oddest Game To Be Powered By Unigine

When it comes to Unigine Corp and their first-class multi-platform game engine, as of late we've mostly been talking about them when it comes to their OilRush game, but there's more going on beyond just that. In fact, there's a small game now shipping that is powered by the Unigine Engine.

First off, when it comes to the OilRush game, they're still hoping to ship it in June, but don't be surprised if it's pushed back a bit. The Mac OS X version of the Unigine Engine and the OilRush Mac build is coming along nicely I've heard. No Mac OS X demo of OilRush has yet been released nor any Mac versions of their Sanctuary / Tropics tech demos, but they should come soon.

The biggest problem that Unigine Corp has hit in bringing up Mac OS X / iOS support alongside the Windows, Linux, and Android support has been buggy graphics drivers. While Apple's graphics drivers have been improved a lot recently with the Source Engine coming over to the Apple world, there's still a ways to go before Unigine Corp will be pleased with them.

The Unigine Engine has also been advancing on the mobile front with a possible mobile version of OilRush to come. In general though Unigine Corp has been working on better supporting the Unigine Engine under Android with NVIDIA Tegra tablets/devices and Apple's latest iOS devices.

Outside of Unigine Corp itself, the Unigine-powered Dilogus game is also advancing. We haven't heard anything though from last year's game development competition and how those Unigine-powered games are developing.

While waiting though for the rain to ease up here in Hungary prior to the Ubuntu Budapest Summit, I discovered a new Unigine-powered game is shipping. It's actually been shipping since March, but it's been under my radar up until now. Even now that I know about it, well, don't expect it to be mentioned on Phoronix again or for any benchmarks to be used in future articles.

What's this new game using Unigine technology? Petshop Club. It's a children's adventure game built using Unigine and developed by the French-placed ACTIPLAY company. It seems though to only be shipping for Windows and Mac OS X. Linux users are left out this round. Below is their video demonstration of this Unigine-powered kids game for anyone who may be interested.

The visuals for this game aren't too impressive. Hopefully its sales though are going better than the initial pre-order volume for the OilRush game. As of this morning, Unigine Corp has just sold 1429 pre-orders of their game, which has brought the company just a little over $24k USD.
