During the summer we were giving away free beta keys for Heroes of Newerth, a game developed by S2 Games that had a native Linux client. During that time we gave away more than 1,000 keys, but since then the retail version of the game was launched to much excitement for both Linux and Windows gamers. This week we learned from S2 Games about how they view their Linux port.

In an email to Phoronix, Laura Baker the director of marketing for S2 Games described their native Linux port. "It has been very successful to launch a Linux port. Both Mac and Linux clients have done well for us. It was beneficial for us to make them for HoN. We want everyone to be able to enjoy this awesome game. I am not sure of exact numbers but I know that they are good."

She is also working to get us their numbers that quantify this situation for Linux gaming. Laura also sent over some Heroes of Newerth trial keys that we will be giving away sometime.
