Catalyst 10.1 Still Trash In Heaven, But Good News
We have just received official word from Unigine that they still are not ready to release their OpenGL Linux version of their Unigine Heaven benchmark. "Unfortunately we were asked by a hardware vendor not to release current version :(," said Denis Shergin, the Unigine Corp CEO. Catalyst 10.1 was just recently released and obviously it still doesn't make the cut, which has been pushing back the Unigine Heaven release for Linux. Now we are waiting for Catalyst 10.2 or later...
The good news though is Unigine is preparing an updated version of Heaven to be released during the Game Developers' Conference (GDC). Details about the improvements are slim, but we are told it's a "heavy" update.
There is also other good news coming out of this Linux-friendly game engine company. We previously mentioned Primal Carnage as a dinosaur game coming to Linux and this morning it's been publicly announced that Primal Carnage is in fact using the Unigine Engine. Primal Carnage is going to be released later this year atop this beautifully advanced game engine with full Linux support. Details are mentioned in this Unigine press release.
