Compiz Fusion To Be Dropped, Other Changes Planned
Yesterday we shared that Compiz++ and Nomad would be merged back into Compiz and today there are even more announcements coming out of the Compiz camp. With Compiz not having a clear road-map, a Compiz council has been established to begin charting the future of this compositing window manager. Besides merging Compiz++ and Nomad back into the mainline Compiz code-base, this five-member council has also agreed to merge Compiz and Compiz Fusion together into a single system as well.
Compiz Fusion came about after Beryl, but it has led to some fragmentation between the two projects. The Compiz FreeDesktop.org infrastructure is being eliminated with entirely and now will have a single bug tracker and other consolidated resources.
Beyond that, we have also learned that the next stable release of Compiz that will hopefully care the Compiz++ and Nomad feature sets should be out in August or September of this year.
All of this information was shared earlier today on the Compiz mailing list.
