TYAN Launches Its First OpenPOWER Reference System
Our hardware friends at TYAN have announced their first customer reference system built around OpenPOWER, the collaboration around IBM's Power Architecture with the Power ISA and other technology being opened up. TYAN's "Palmetto System" is promoted as being innovative, collaborative, and open.
The TYAN GN70-BP010 "Palmetto System" is the company's first OpenPOWER design and based on the POWER 8 architecture. This system fits in a 2U chassis, features an IBM Power 8 Turismo SCM CPU, offers four R-DDR3-1600 sockets, one PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, one PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and four Serial ATA 3.0 ports.
The TYAN GN70-BP010 is geared to run Ubuntu 14.10. Sadly my main contact at TYAN has left the company which is why our many TYAN product reviews were years ago now at Phoronix, but will still be working to try to get access to this Linux-friendly OpenPOWER platform. This reference system is priced at $2,753 USD.
