Nouveau Gains Support For The X PRESENT Extension
One day after the open-source Nouveau X.Org driver gained support for GLAMOR acceleration and the NVIDIA "Maxwell" hardware, the latest addition to xf86-video-nouveau is enabling support for the X.Org PRESENT extension.
The PRESENT extension landed with DRI3 in the X.Org Server 1.15 release from some months ago. The ultimate goal of DRI3+PRESENT is faster and tear-free rendering under the X.Org Server.
Ben Skeggs of Red Hat and the lead Nouveau developer, added Present support to the Nouveau DDX today to serve until the GLAMOR support has its own generic PRESENT implementation. As part of this work was a more generic KMS event mechanism and other DRI-related changes that landed a short time ago inside the seldom touched Nouveau DDX.
