GStreamer VA-API Plug-In Update Adds New Features
Gwenole Beauchesne has released an updated version of the GStreamer VA-API that provides major changes to this plug-in set that allows for hardware-accelerated video decoding with the Video Acceleration API when using GStreamer.
The GStreamer VA-API 0.5.9 release adds support for VP8 decoding, H.264 MVC decoding/encoding, fixed support for GStreamer 1.4/1.5-Git, and fixed support for Firefox 30 and newer when using GStreamer 1.0 APIs. The VP8 VA-API decoder being exposed to GStreamer comes a few months after VP8 was added to VA-API itself and as of earlier this month to VA-API itself is VP8 encoding support. The H.264 MVC encoder/decoder being exposed for GStreamer usage also makes this release exciting. The other updates are also good with Firefox finally supporting the GStreamer 1.0 APIs.
GStreamer VA-API 0.5.9 also has a number of other changes including bug fixes, major enhancements to the H.264 AVC decoder, vaapidecode improvements, and other great work.
The gstreamer-vaapi 0.5.9 release announcement on gstreamer-devel highlights all of the changes to this latest update.
