Qualcomm Announces 64-bit Snapdragon Processors

Qualcomm announced this morning their next-generation 64-bit processors for what they hope yields "the ultimate connected mobile computing experiences" with a ton of new features and capabilities.

The new SoCs announced this morning are the Snapdragon 808 and 810 processors that are 64-bit enabled, LTE-equipped chipsets.

The Snapdragon 810 processor features a 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A57 CPU and Cortex-A53. The graphics processor for this new SoC is an Adreno 430 GPU with OpenGL ES 3.1 support and claims to yield 30% faster graphics performance and 100% faster GPGPU compute performance compared to the Adreno 420.

Making the Snapdragon 810 even more exciting is its rich-native 4K Ultra HD support, high-speed LPDDR4 memory, 802.11ac WiFi, USB 3.0 connectivity, and Bluetooth 4.1 support.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 targets WQXGA 2560x1600 displays with its Adreno 418 GPU. The CPUs on the Snapdragon 808 are a dual-core ARM Cortex-A57 with a quad-core Cortex-A53 for its lower power state. The 808 processor isn't using LPDDR4 memory but sticking to LPDDR3.

These two new processor announcements from Qualcomm are incredibly exciting and it's great to finally seeing more ARMv8 64-bit announcements. More information on the new Snapdragon 64-bit processors can be found via the Qualcomm press release.
