In continuing to stick to a three-month release cycle for Mesa releases, Mesa 10.2 should be released within the next two months.

Ian Romanick began plotting a release schedule for Mesa 10.2 at the end of last week. The original schedule he proposed calls for a feature freeze and branching on 2 May, the first release candidate on 16 May, a second release candidate on 23 May, and then the final release on 30 May. The general time-line seems to be okay but some developers are expressing differences over when the first release candidate should take place. There's also a need to make sure this Mesa release will do well with the X.Org Server / XWayland release due to take place in July.

The current discussions surrounding the Mesa 10.2 release schedule can be found via the Mesa-dev mailing list. For those not keeping up to date with our dozens of Mesa 10.2 articles and OpenGL performance tests, there's many new features in Mesa 10.2. Mesa 10.2 is very exciting though it looks like will only be OpenGL 3.3 compliant and not OpenGL 4.0, which would have bumped its major version number to Mesa 11.0. I'm getting hopeful though that we could see OpenGL 4.0 Mesa in 2014.
