EXT4 & XFS File-System Updates Land In Linux 3.15
EXT4 and XFS file-system updates for the Linux 3.15 kernel merge window are now clear.
Earlier in the week Ted Ts'o had already sent in his kernel pull request with some modest updates for the EXT4 file-system. "Major changes for 3.14 include support for the newly added ZERO_RANGE and COLLAPSE_RANGE fallocate operations, and scalability improvements in the jbd2 layer and in xattr handling when the extended attributes spill over into an external block. Other than that, the usual clean ups and minor bug fixes."
Meanwhile, published today were the XFS updates on the Linux kernel mailing list. The XFS file-system also has the fallocate feature updates, O_TMPFILE support, clean-ups, and other general bug-fixes.
We're still waiting to see what the Btrfs and F2FS file-system changes will look like for the Linux 3.15 kernel. When Linux 3.15 is further along, new file-system tests on HDDs and SSDs across recent kernel versions will happen at Phoronix.
