Java JDK 8 Developer Preview Released
Oracle has released the first JDK 8 Developer Preview builds for Windows, OS X, Linux, and Solaris platforms.
Oracle Java 8 was delayed earlier this year over Project Lambda, an effort to add closures to the Java language. This week's DP release does incorporate the said functionality that allows for easier multi-core programming.
With the easier multi-core programming through Project Lamda, Java 8 also has a new Datre/Time API, the new Nashorn JavaScript engine, a new concept of Java Compact Profiles, and has HotSpot Virtual Machine changes, and much more. Other new items found in Java 8 can be found via the Java.net features page.
The developer preview build of Java JDK 8 can be found at jdk.java.net. Due to the earlier Java 8 delays, the final release of Java 8 isn't expected from Oracle until early 2014.
