Canonical Collaborates With Chinese For Ubuntu Kylin
For those that didn't hear already, Canonical is collaborating with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (the Chinese government) to develop Kylin, a new Chinese operating system based upon Ubuntu.
This is a big win for Ubuntu/Canonical with Kylin to be the "new reference architecture for standard operating systems in China." This is rather interesting since Red Flag Linux was a popular Linux distribution backed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Ministry of Information Industry, which was a Red Hat based operating system.
The first Ubuntu Kylin release for Chinese users is expected next month with 13.04. The announcement of this joint Chinese and Canonical effort can be found at Canonical.com.
