The second release candidate of X.Org Server 1.14 is now available ahead of the official release in a few weeks time.

RC1 came in mid-December while on Wednesday night was finally RC2 as tagged by Keith Packard. With RC2 being out, only critical bug-fixes will now be accepted ahead of the xorg-server 1.14 release. The final release of X.Org Server 1.14 is expected to happen on 5 March.

X.Org Server 1.14 RC2 incorporates a couple dozen changes as shown in the mailing list announcement.

X.Org Server 1.14 introduces pointer barriers and barrier releases but overall this new X.Org Server update isn't too exciting for end-users. Perhaps most notably missing from X.Org Server 1.14 is any XWayland support, which will now have to wait until at least September before appearing in a released product.

The proprietary NVIDIA graphics driver already is compatible with X.Org Server 1.14 while it will be an unknown length of time before the AMD Catalyst driver is compatible with the xorg-server 1.14 ABI.
