OpenShot Switches From GTK+ To Qt
There's a new update on the state of the OpenShot video editor application.
After already working on some exciting features for 2013, the OpenShot video editor has laid out some new plans following a successful KickStarter campaign. The biggest decision made is switching from using the GTK+ tool-kit to now using Qt. The reasons expressed for switching from GTK+ to Qt were performance (particularly with embedded HTML and JavaScript), the native-looking widget rendering, improved tools, and easy support for OpenGL.
With moving from GTK+ to Qt, more of the code can be removed and replaced with JavaScript code. A revised time-line for migrating to Qt5 is expected to be shared soon. Aside from switching tool-kits, there's also plans for hardware-accelerated rendering and distributed editing.
