Ubuntu developers continue investing a great deal of time and resources on ensuring the Linux distribution runs smoothly on the Google Nexus 7 tablet.

The latest achievement announced on Friday for the Ubuntu Linux developers working on the Nexus 7 port is that the new Google tablet can now handle running the latest Ubuntu 13.04 state. Ubuntu 12.10 previously ran on the Nexus 7 tablet, but now Ubuntu 13.04 is up to par. This announcement was made on the ubuntu-devel list.

There's daily 13.04 install images being made for the Nexus 7. The 13.04 version now supports the OEM installer rather than being a pre-installed image so users can select their desired language / time-zone and username in a easy manner. Ubuntu 13.04 also adds in support for serial debug.

For those interested in more details on Ubuntu for the Nexus 7, see this Wiki page. Google's Nexus 7 retails for $199 USD and boasts a 1280x800 HD IPS display, 16GB or 32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, and is built around NVIDIA's Tegra 3 ARM SoC.

Meanwhile, for those wanting more powerful ARM hardware that also works with Ubuntu Linux, I would highly recommend the Google Samsung Chromebook with the ARM Cortex-A15 as its performance is far superior to the current-generation Tegra and all around it's a great offering.
