LINUX GAMING
There's lots of big news coming next week that will affect the Linux desktop.

As has been widely reported now by various publications, Intel is expected to launch their next-generation Ivy Bridge processors on Monday, 23 April. On the day that Ivy Bridge launches, you can expect to see a load of CPU and graphics benchmarks for their next-generation Core i7 processors under Linux on Phoronix. With Ubuntu 12.04 LTS they will be compared to the AMD FX-8150 Bulldozer and various Sandy Bridge processors.

Those articles will just be the start and you can expect to see many more Ivy Bridge Linux tests in the coming weeks on Phoronix. Under Linux the raw performance of Intel's Ivy Bridge is not only wonderful and amazing, but the performance-per-Watt is too.

Also on Monday, I will be leaving for Seattle/Bellevue-land from Monday through Friday. Yes, on Tuesday is the much-anticipated meeting with Gabe Newell, Mike Sartain, and I regarding the native Steam/Source-Engine Linux client. Things are really heating up and it's finally coming. Assuming there's no NDAs or Valve requests otherwise, there will hopefully be more Linux information to share that day and ideally a quick video with Gabe and showing off the native Linux client.

Stay tuned for Phoronix for hopefully some great information to share next week; I'll also be tweeting whatever is permitted. Steam/Source on Linux is really a last shot for Linux on the desktop and for gamers to prove to studios that AAA titles on Linux can be viable and a worthwhile effort.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" is scheduled to be released next Thursday, 26 April. Enough said about that.

There might also be a few other surprises next week too.

Right now is a wonderful time to subscribe to Phoronix Premium for ad-free browsing of Phoronix and to view entire articles on a single page -- all of the content next week are going to be large, multi-page postings (particularly for the Ivy Bridge Linux coverage is going to amount to dozens of pages). Phoronix.com is primarily funded by the low-cost Phoronix Premium subscriptions and advertising revenue (no AdBlock please!). PayPal tips are also welcome.
