GCC vs. LLVM Clang Compiler Performance On AMD's Ryzen
Our latest AMD Ryzen Linux benchmarking is looking at the performance of the GCC and LLVM Clang compiler performance with a Ryzen 7 1700 on Ubuntu Linux.
Tested for this comparison were LLVM Clang 3.9.1, LLVM Clang 4.0 RC2, GCC 6.3.0, and GCC 7.0.1 20170305 for our Linux x86_64 compiler performance testing on the eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 1700. Tests were done on Ubuntu 17.04 64-bit with the Linux 4.10 kernel. Each compiler was tested with its release builds and the packages were built while the CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS were set for "-O3 -march=native."
All of this Linux compiler performance testing was done in a fully-automated and streamlined manner using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite benchmarking software.
