For those looking at purchasing hardware for a low-cost socketed Kabini APU system build following our many AMD AM1 Platform tests under Linux that found the low-end hardware to play well with the open-source operating system, one of the motherboards worth considering is the ASUS AM1I-A.

The ASUS AM1I-A is a $50 USD mini-ITX motherboard for the new AM1 Athlon and Sempron APUs. The AM1I-A compiles with mini-ITX specifications and the low-cost theme of AM1 APUs, but the board lacks a PCI Express x16 slot for using external graphics and instead opts for just a PCI-E x4 slot. The board has dual DDR3-1600MHz memory slots, USB 3.0 connectivity, and other standard features shared by the other low-end AM1 motherboards. This AM1I-A motherboard was sent over to us by AMD as part of our review kit with the Athlon 5350 APU.

Included with this $50 AM1 motherboard was just a driver disc, the user's manual, I/O shield, and two Serial ATA cables. Being such a low-cost board, ASUS doesn't bundle any other extra accessories with the AM1I-A.
