Lini PC Delivers A Nice Haswell-based Xubuntu PC

Lini PC is a low-volume system builder of Linux-friendly PCs that recently sent over their new Intel Pentium Haswell-based desktop that runs Xubuntu 13.10. Let's see how this Intel Linux desktop system performs with our first testing of a Lini PC.

Lini PC aims for low-cost, high-value Linux PCs targeting DIY clusters, servers, and general-purpose desktops. Lini PC is based out of California and recently its owner, Ersun Warncke, offered to send out a review sample for testing at Phoronix. Their lone PC shipping right now is a small form factor Haswell system measuring in at 8 x 9 x 2.25-inches and weighs four pounds.

The current-generation Lini PC ships with an Intel Pentium G3220 "Haswell" processor, 4GB of DDR3-1333MHz memory, and 500GB HDD. The review sample I was sent over was upgraded to its 8GB DDR3 model and with a 120GB Kingston SSD. The system ships with Xubuntu 13.10. The base pricing starts out at $399 USD while the configured model we're testing is currently offered for $499.

With Lini PC shipping in even lower volumes than System76 or ZaReason, the Lini PC is assembled via off-the-shelf hardware with no customizations to the case or product packaging. Included with the PC was just a single sheet of printed paper that covers the system's login credentials, a few words on the Ubuntu Software Center, and support information.
