For those curious about the file-system performance of Ubuntu 12.10, here are some benchmarks from Quantal's Linux 3.5 kernel with the EXT4, XFS, and Btrfs file-systems.

This testing is quite straight forward and was simply done from a CompuLab Intense-PC with its low-voltage Intel Core i7 3517 UE "Ivy Bridge" processor and a 500GB Hitachi HCC54755 hard drive. When Ubuntu 12.10 is gold, more file-system tests will be conducted from systems with both hard drives and solid-state drives.

Btrfs, EXT4, and XFS were tested with their stock mount options as found in Ubuntu 12.10 with the Linux 3.5 kernel.
