AMD has expanded its Radeon HD 6000 series family, with the launch this week of the mid-range Radeon HD 6570 and Radeon HD 6670 graphics cards. We were sent over a Sapphire Radeon HD 6570 in advance, but as it did not arrive until Monday, the results are only now available. Here is the first Linux benchmarks of the AMD Radeon HD 6570 "Turks" graphics processor.

The Radeon HD 6570 provides 624 GFLOPS of single-precision compute power with 480 Stream processing units, 24 texture units, 32 Z/stencil ROP units, and eight color ROP units.

Like the rest of the Radeon HD 6000 series family, there is Microsoft DirectX 11.0 support, OpenCL 1.1 / DirectCompute 11 support, and OpenGL 4.1 support (well, when using Catalyst, the Mesa/Gallium3D drivers on Linux are still capped at OpenGL 2.1 for the time being). The Radeon HD 6570 continues to have a UVD3 video engine for providing video acceleration via MPEG-4 AVC / H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2, MVC, and MPEG-4 Part 2 / DivX / xVid. Under Linux the UVD3 (and UVD2) engine is only exposed via the proprietary Catalyst driver via the XvBA interface, which is primarily used by applications with the VA-API-to-XvBA library.
