This weekend at the Southern California Linux Expo in Los Angeles, Matthew Tippett and I presented a talk entitled Five Stages of Benchmark Loss: PTS and You. In this hour-long talk, we covered Linux benchmarking, what has been learned over the years of benchmarking at Phoronix, the Phoronix Test Suite, and the five stages that users and developers generally go through when they lose out on benchmarking results. For those that were unable to attend this event, here are the slides and recordings.

Below are the slides that were presented to cover the five stages of benchmark loss. For those that prefer viewing them as an Adobe PDF file, the slides can also be found here. The Five Stages of Benchmark Loss developed by Matthew and modeled after the Kübler-Ross model of Five Stages of Grief include shock, denial, discreditation, analysis, and acceptance.

We recorded a 720p HD video of the talk, but alas, due to the large file-size it is not yet available. The extracted audio of the talk can be found in MP3 and Ogg formats. This audio goes along with the slides. A few small details concerning features in future versions of the Phoronix Test Suite were also touched on during the talk as well as Phoromatic.

If anyone has any questions about this talk or would like more information, please let us know. On Saturday we also opened up github.com/phoronix-test-suite/phoronix-test-suite for the emerging PTS Commercial support offerings. We also had several interesting discussions with others at this Linux conference and we hope to have some very interesting announcements to make in the near future concerning the Phoronix Test Suite family of products.
