While OCZ Technology is known for their memory products, over the past few years they have developed a strong family of power supplies -- most notably with their PowerStream, ProXStream, and GameXStream series. With their acquisition of PC Power & Cooling in 2007 it affirmed their position as a leader in this market and with the combination of the engineering talent from OCZ and PC Power & Cooling they are now able to deliver even more competitive and high-end products. The OCZ EliteXStream 800W is ATX12V v2.2 compliant, greater than 80% efficiency, single +12V rail, active PFC, and is backed by a five-year warranty. Today we are reviewing this product.

The EliteXStream 800W had arrived in similar packaging to other OCZ power supplies, which isn't much different from other brands aside from those that take an unconventional approach of shipping a power supply in a leather briefcase, for instance. Unlike the PC Power & Cooling PSUs with their simple white box, OCZ does have a decorative exterior that shows views of the power supply along with the key features. With the 800W power supply was a user's manual, US power cord, and mounting screws. The part number for the 800W model is OCZ800EXS while the 1000W is OCZ1000EXS. OCZ's five-year warranty on all their power supplies come with a PowerSwap promise where OCZ will swap any defective power supply for a brand new one, instead of repairing the defective unit.
